Danceground FAQs

What is Danceground?

Danceground is our come-as-you-are in person and online freeform dancing and movement space. No experience is required, and we expect that all participants will do our best to create a judgment-free space to move freely and express. Danceground is an invitation to explore your edges, to connect with self and others, and to have fun while doing it.

Who can participate in Danceground?

Any person of any age and ability is welcome to join. We uplift and celebrate BIPOC, fat, disabled, queer, trans, and any other bodies that are often marginalized in mainstream culture.

What do we do on the Danceground?

Though it varies depending on whether you are participating online or in person, through a private event, workplace wellness or DIY, you can expect the same general structure:

We begin with a welcome and general overview of our theme, followed by some insights about how to work with the current placement of the moon and any other astrological events as we dance, followed by setting intentions for our time.

We are then invited to consider guided prompts as we move to the music together (each participant receives a PDF copy), then we come back together to regroup and check in at the end.

What if I don’t want to do what is being asked of me on the Danceground?

Participants are encouraged to participate as much or as little as they wish, within their own comfort level. We value consent and will not force participation in any specific way. You get to decide how and when to move or engage. If you are participating online, you can choose to leave your camera on or off for the duration of the session. If you are participating in person, we often try to create a chill space away from the dance floor to take a break.

How long is each session?

All online and in person Danceground sessions are between 1.5 and 2 hours long, with exceptions made on rare occasions. DIY Danceground can be done whenever and for however long you wish!

Do I need to commit to a certain number of sessions?

Nah! You get to decide how much or little you want to engage. If you’re interested in consistent online monthly Danceground access plus poetry workshops, community chats, and creative flow work sessions, we recommend joining Surrendirt to Community. If you’re more interested in just occasionally joining an online Danceground without access to the community benefits, email rendirt@surrendirtlove.com to be added to our Google Calendar Danceground invites only. Workplace Wellness events can be one time or repeating, depending on your company’s goals and interests. Private events have a similar structure - one time or repeating, at your request. You can do the DIY Danceground as often as you’d like!

How much does it cost to participate in Danceground?

DIY packages start at $5/each and $15/each for custom. Outdoor Danceground in Western Mass is $15-$25 sliding scale per event. Online Danceground through Google Invite is $10-$20 sliding scale per event. Online Danceground through Surrendirt to Community starts at $65/month (on the “Create” or above) tiers. Email rendirt@surrendirtlove.com to receive a quote for a private event or workplace wellness standard or custom package.

How did Danceground get started?

We’ve been dancing and moving since 2023 online on the Danceground in Surrendirt to Community, moved outdoors for the first time ever in September of 2025, and are currently conjuring several more ways to engage with Danceground, including: DIY, Workplace Wellness, Private Event, and Custom Danceground packages online and in-person premiering in January 2026! More detailed information about the origins are HERE in the first ever email announcing Danceground back in 2023.

Who facilitates Danceground?

If you’re doing DIY, it’s you! If you’re entering at any other access point, it’s Ren! You can read more about Ren HERE and HERE.
