Love doesn’t need to be grand gestures and confessing our deepest desires all the time.
It can be as simple and smooth as a river rock on a sticky note in the morning.
I woke to this sweet little slice of love after a particularly challenging day this week - and my gosh, I know we’ve all had so many of these days lately.
My partner often has to leave early in the morning to get to work, so our goodbyes are typically some mishmash of sleepy kisses and quick embraces before she rolls out of bed.
She knew the previous night had been hard for me, had held me gently while I cried in bed, and they knew it would be a couple days before we’d see each other again.
I love you and I’m here ❤️❤️❤️ she wrote, and left a smooth river stone that had undoubtedly lived in their pocket the entire previous day - a literal touchstone.

And this one sweet gesture began a cascade of kindness that poured out from me in texts and messages to friends and family the rest of the day.
One smooth river rock, when released across the surface of a body of water, can sometimes skip several times.
One kind and loving gesture has the ability to ripple out and reverberate across space and time.
So here I am, sharing this little love note with you, and inviting you to pass it on to someone you love today. There is already so much hate and animosity spreading like wildfire out there. Let’s root down and remember our reasons why we keep choosing to live this life day after day after day… even, and especially, when it’s feels fucking impossible. You are one of my reasons why.
And… you have my permission to forward this email to someone you love, or to someone that you care about or admire, or a friend or acquaintance who might be struggling or even just to read it out loud to yourself (those inner kiddos need this medicine, too).
And also, here’s a reminder to just…. say the thing. Whatever it is. It doesn’t need to be rehearsed or perfected. It just needs to be true.
