Last week, I did a curious, new-to-me social media experiment and chose not to look at anyone else’s content but my own.

No scrolling.

No clicking on stories.

Just signing on to post my own content and respond to comments and messages on my own page.

And here’s why…

Social media and the internet in general can be a really great place to find a wealth of different info and perspectives (we all know this) and also it can be a lot of unecessary noise.

For me, as a person who is an emotional processor and an introvert, someone who needs to go inward and find my own power before coming out and being with the rest of you, this social media dynamic can be overwhelming and downright debilitating at times.

I know that I need to ground deeply into myself and my own energies and creative pursuits so that they don’t get mixed and muddled with everyone else out there.

When I can do this, wild shifts occur, and then I’m able to offer from a truly authentic place.

🎇 taking action steps to begin in-person outdoor Danceground sessions here in western Massachusetts.

🎇 pausing to take a few breaths before eating

🎇 feeling MY emotions (super important for my particular flavor of human design - a “time bender” with creative authority)

🎇 physically and energetically cleaning my home

🎇 sending thoughtful texts

🎇 sitting in silence

🎇 digesting (quite literally 💩)

🎇 mindfully preparing food

🎇 posting to social media whenever the heck I WANTED to (and receiving more engaging responses from my followers)

🎇 talking with my neighbors (I even got a potential new friend’s number from someone I've been wanting to ask for months!)

🎇 recognizing and releasing trauma and tension that has been stored in my hips and pelvis for years (lifetimes?)

🎇 spending intentional time with my cats and giving their senior kitty babe bodies the gentlest of massages

🎇 remembering that I live in a body and I get to explore pleasure in many ways

🎇falling deeper in love with the land I currently belong to

🎇 snuggling the heck out of (and yes, falling deeper in love with) my babe of a partner

The invitation:

What might it look like to shift your relationship to something that currently drains your energy or overwhelms you?

Perhaps it’s social media, like me.

Maybe it’s a relationship you have with a friend, family member, or coworker, or with a system such as the healthcare or education system.

Maybe it’s your relationship to alcohol or other substances, to streaming shows or gaming, to money or your job.

Maybe it’s your relationship with your past or future.

Whatever it is, I invite you to pick a thing.

Then I invite you to ask yourself:

What small shift can I curiously make for the next week in hopes of changing the way I relate to this relationship?

Remember, it doesn’t have to be a BIG shift all at once.

Just one teeny tiny bite.

No scrolling.

No clicking on stories.

One teeny tiny bite.

And remember, you get to be curious about this.

Another gentle reminder that your shifts do not need to look like mine - in fact, they probably won’t look exactly the same because you’re uniquely you and get to have your own experience with this.

And yet another reminder to have fun with this - if it feels overwhelming to take a bite, know that you’re in the driver’s seat here and get to decide whether to continue with this curious experiment or not.
