Above is an excerpt from a poem I wrote just about a month before relocating back to the desert Southwest U.S. a year and a half ago. The entire poem can be found either in my Patreon archives on any tier, or in my podcast episode titled β€œdissolution.”

The following limerick, written by a younger version of me, about my favorite basketball team debuted in my elementary school’s newsletter back in the early β€˜90s:

UConn Huskies are number one.
On the court, they always have fun.
Dribble the ball,
the ref makes a call,
and that’s how the Huskies won!

Fun fact: I grew up cheering on Sue Bird in her college glory days as a basketball player at UConn, and watched her in her finals years with the Seattle Storm just before I moved back to the desert here.

To continue the Sue theme, and since we’re getting close to the season where we dress up and find some treats, here’s a little treat from 2018, in which my friend and I are queerly dressed up as Sue and Megan 😍 (more info about who these two athletic heartthrobs are, if ya click on the link!)

Though my relationship with poetry has changed a bit since my lil baby limerick days, poetic expression still serves a similar purpose in my life:

TO PROCESS, REVEAL, CREATE, EXPRESS, CONNECT, HEAL, AND THEN SOME.

Sharing my poetry publicly has often not been the norm, aside from my limerick debut, my first poetry award in middle school, and my second poetry award in 2021.

And also, there’s something about the process of creating and then sharing (expressing) that simultaneously FILLS ME UP, heals, and connects me. It is no coincidence that poetry began pretty consistently falling out of me ever since a life-changing medical diagnosis in 2021.
